About
Three decades of experience in policy, bioeconomy, and international cooperation.

Kaj Suomela has built his career at the intersection of forestry, EU policy, and international cooperation. Trained as a forester and economist at the University of Helsinki, he began his work in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, where he supervised reforestation and agroforestry projects aimed at rehabilitating degraded land and improving local livelihoods
From there, Suomela’s career expanded into regional development and EU policy, serving as Agricultural Counsellor at the Finnish Representation in Brussels, Director General at the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, and later as Regional Mayor of Ostrobothnia
Today, through Green Change Consulting, Suomela draws on more than three decades of leadership experience to help companies succeed in market entry between Finland/Europe and Indonesia.
His work focuses on bioeconomy, sustainability, and halal certification, supporting businesses in navigating complex regulations while turning the green transition into an opportunity for growth.
